The Rebbe
This Sunday we commemorate the anniversary of the passing of the Rebbe (Rabbi Menachem M. Schneersohn).
More than a decade since his passing, his presence is palpable in every corner of the globe and his efforts to revive a post-holocaust generation continue at an exponential rate. Physically he is no longer with us but his teachings and the impression he has made remain timeless. Though the Rebbe had no children he left behind a generation of orphans.
One Sunday (apporimately 20 years ago) my father a"h went to see the Rebbe. During the course of the short conversation, my father (who was a professor of medicine) asked the Rebbe for a little success in his research. The Rebbe responded by saying that G‑d should grant him a lot of success.
That same Sunday (though at a later time during the day) my mother brought my brother and I to see the Rebbe. As we approached the Rebbe, my mother asked for a blessing that she be blessed with a little nachas (Jewish joy and pride) from her children. The Rebbe turned to her and said, "you ask for a little, your husband asks for a little ... G‑d is great. And He can give a little as easily as He can give a lot!"
This Sunday is an auspicious day to ask G‑d for a lot - for ourselves and our families. May the Rebbe's memory and legacy be a source of blessing to each and every one of us.
Let us do a mitzvah today in honor of Rebbe.
Shabbat Shalom from New York,
Rabbi Raleigh Resnick
